The Gambia Echo Remains Blocked In The Gambia

The Gambia Echo remains blocked in Gambia

By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In-Chief

Despite recent claims to the contrary, The Gambia Echo was still widely inaccessible to our homeland readership in the West African state of The Gambia. We have just spoken to over a dozen serious and conscientious readers across the mini-state among them diplomats, and none could access the paper.

Sana Sabally apologises for bellicose comments

Dear Editor,

I wish to add my little ideas in an article "Gambia- Together We Are Strong and Divided We Fall" to the ongoing political discussions in our country. We are all human. None is infallible! We all make mistakes, or rather, I say I make mistakes. No one should hesitate to correct oneself when one finds one has made a mistake. With regrets and apology I say to all that I AM VERY

The British Elections and the Lessons for The Gambia

Bishop Solomon Tilewa Johnson, as Chairman of the IEC; initiated extensive changes

We have all been witnesses to the recent elections in the Untied Kingdom, which produced a hung parliament, eventually leading to a coalition government between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. The Gambia: The Nature of Yahya Jammeh’s Dictatorship and more

Jammeh’s indifference and objectification of Gambians; copy of a character of world wide notoriety

By Mathew K. Jallow

It was a time of great upheaval; an era fraught with conflict, danger, but of a promise too. Even more important, it was a world deeply divided by political chicanery, and desperate ambitions, and Africa, not surprisingly, was home base of some of the worst excesses of this political imperiousness. In Oslo, groups of Asians of Indian origin descended on the city late one summer, courting unsolicited attention and leery looks, even as their uneasy smiles

Anonymity brings out the worst instincts, says Miami Herald Columnist

There was this new medium, the Internet, and newspapers were posting stories on it, and someone decided to create a forum where readers could discuss and debate what they just read. Justice Minister Gomez accused of lying

This week, a well represented African NGOs forum held in The Gambia, challenged African governments to respect the human rights of their people. One of the main highlights of the forum was the remarkable comments made by Edward Gomez, Gambia’s newly appointed Justice Minister.

The National Dilemma: Yahya Jammeh and The Gambia’s political landscape

By  Mathew K. Jallow, Associate Editor

It did not take much effort for Gambians to acquiesce to fear. And now, sixteen years into his reign, it is easy to write a fitting epitaph for Yahya Jammeh’s reign of confusion. But Jammeh has more than just luck on his side. The culture of assigning our people’s fate to a higher power compelled us to lose sight of the character of our constitutional document.
