Edward David Singhateh In Good Health

Edward Singhateh In Good Health

By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In- Chief

Edward Singhateh & Yahya Jammeh, old friends

Ever since news of the alleged pummeling and alleged indisposition of erstwhile Forestry Secretary and once Vice Chairman Edward David Singhateh of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council, The Gambia Echo has been inundated with seemingly unabated phone calls from curious Gambians.

Well, today we are pleased to report with incontrovertible evidence that Mighty Singhateh as the notorious butcher of Banjul is some times called, is in good health, fit and fine. Our correspondent Njie Khakatarr caught up with Singhateh at Bakau yesterday and in fact shook his hand. While the rumour and innuendos continue to brew in Banjul that the former strong man narrowly escaped death, our correspondent followed Singhateh along Kairaba Avenue all the way to the US Embassy area where Singhateh behind the wheel of a private car had three passengers presumably, friends and or personal security. Says, Khakatarr, the man appeared quite relaxed and had his vehicle windows rolled down enjoying the breeze as his car stereo blasts music. When he stopped our correspondent, Khakatarr quickly asked him “how are you doing Mr. Singhateh” he gently replied, “Fine, thank you sir!” Asked what the former Minister was doing in that area, our reporter said it would appear that he was on a regular joy ride and probably to dispel the allegations that he was severely pummeled by bandits. Asked if there was anything on his body, face or hands to suggest a rough encounter, our correspondent said “not at all, the Singhateh whose hand I shook was driving a car and had three other people with him”.
