Banjul Letter Writer Alleges That President Jammeh Sacked Mayor Conteh Over Girlfriend Palaver-Says Both Are Corrupt Womanizers

I must thank you for the wonderful and factual stories that you are publishing for our benefit. Your paper has really become a force to be reckoned with in terms of reporting the truth and exposing the ills facing the peace loving people of the great country of The Gambia.

I have followed all your stories on a daily basis with keen interest. However, I have not yet seen an article detailing the manifest corruption and abuse of power at our local Area Councils in the dictatorial regime of AJJ and his cohorts. We all know that local councils are charged with providing basic services to the people living in their municipalities but if you look at the state of the Councils from BCC, KMC and all the others, its just a bunch of womanizers and alcoholics running the show & driving big cars.

I would like you to publish the details/ role of Lie Conteh in ruining KMC no doubt he had all the Yai Compins in his favor when there is ample evidence that he went to bed with most of the women at his disposal. A simple example is his famous girl friend in Serekunda that we all know he impregnated at a teenage age (17) when he was still in the Army, this child is now a young man rubbing shoulders in revenge with the same man that refused to accept him as his own father. After few years when she married a Semester (Gambian metaphor who one who had travelled to the Western world and potentially rich), the pompous Mayor Conteh re-surfaced again to snatch the greedy girl form her husband who was abroad. Conteh abused his office as Mayor to secure her a top job at GAMTEL without even a high school qualification. But unfortunately for him, she revenged only for her to fall in love with Bakary Njie, which ensured her job security. Mayor Lie Conteh’s relationship to Amie Joof-Conteh that culminated in a marriage of convenience is also in the spotlight. If Yankuba Touray is a wife snatcher why not Lie the KMC King. No wonder, AJJ started to punish him when he lured a woman he was interested in. Belai Wolai Talai we all know the woman’s name and how a Head of state and a Mayor can literally fight over a girl is most astonishing. But AJJ himself knows that women are just after his stolen money because the Head of state is so ugly that no sane person really wants to run into him in the early morning hours- bad luck!

Please Editor; this is just a tip of the iceberg. Not to talk about the embezzlements at the Council he and the CEO Njie were involved in. How did they as ordinary civil servants from nowhere, acquired their properties, houses, commercial & private vehicles?

Currently, there is no refuse collection truck in the whole of Banjul. Our homes are littered with garbage. Imagine during the month of Ramadan, if all the revenue collected by the Council since 1994 was wisely invested, this problem would have been circumvented. I have so much information about the President and Mayor Conteh and this is the beginning of it. More will follow.
