Ex-Acting Ambassador Cole & Detained Diplomat Lamin Sabi Sanyang
As investigations into the alleged financial impropriety of detained Gambian diplomat Lamin Sabi Sanyang intensify, the political reverberations are now hitting the ill-fated Gambian Embassy in Washington, DC. Our unimpeachable State House operative Kissy Kissy Mansa reports that a very temperamental President Jammeh has today, ordered the immediate withdrawal of Acting Ambassador Abdourahman Cole, Cultural Attaché Ebrima J. T. Kujabie and one Pa Jagne, a Senegalese national employed as a chauffeur and a close associate of Lamin Sabi Sanyang. It can be recalled that in late November 2008, The Gambia Echo reported that Ebrima J. T. Kujabie was recalled. President Jammeh later rescinded that rash decision after Kujabie reportedly defended himself with compelling evidence to the contrary during a tense phone conversation with the errant head of state. However, knowing the enormity of what lay ahead, we at The Echo decided to exercise even greater patience. Weeks prior to Kujabie's case, Mr. Ousman Taal who was the First Secretary at the time, was recalled following what our diplomatic sources called malicious fake email exchages concocted by Lamin Sabi Sanyang and a friend to bury Taal alive.
Reveals Kissy, following Sanyang’s high profile arrest on New Year’s, investigators have been widening their nets and after Sanyang’s transfer to the National Intelligence Agency Headquarters on Marena Parade Tuesday night, new evidence has emerged. According to Kissy, “no one goes to NIA’s Bambadinka (Mandinka for Crocodile’s pond) without speaking out, you must, no matter how brave one may be.” “At Bambadinka” says Kissy, “you cannot tell what time of day it is, because the room is too dark, mosquito invested and scary and most detainees leave the place confused and depressed sometimes appearing mentally challenged. Bambadinka is the last leg of the investigation cycle before detainees are transferred to Mile II prisons.”
Asked what new evidence may have prompted the President’s angry reaction, our operative asked that we exercise patience as so many things have transpired at the embassy over the last year and until the investigations are conclusive, it would be hard to speculate.
For now though, The Gambia Echo can report with overwhelming evidence that a new team of diplomats is being assembled to replace the out-going team that has presided over the most corrupt and inept consulate in the history of Gambian diplomacy where the President of The Republic of The Gambia in cohort with Financial Attaché Sanyang have wreaked havoc on the reputation of our nation through their remorseless, nefarious and always dubious activities premised on a feeling of ethnic identity. Predictably, like numerous others before him, Sanyang too has, albeit lately, seen the other side of Yahya Jammeh- the dark side, the evil side, the vicious side that turns him into the monster that he has become and all too often, those who support him blindly never see this until when the dye is cast.

In December 2007, as Gambian children were dying of preventable diseases in the country, President Jammeh through Lamin Sabi Sanyang paid for this Beauty Queens in Christmas regalia to a lavish vacation in Hawaii.
In a related twist, we have been informed that following The Gambia Echo’s scandalous revelations in September 2008 on how President Jammeh and Sanyang were mismanaging Gambian money in the millions, Jammeh was very furious and disturbed and in the process lured Sanyang to The Gambia by asking him to accompany some beauty queens for the new year celebrations as was customary between the duo. No sooner had Sanyang and party arrived than a team of joint-security forces was dispatched to arrest him and since then, he has not seen the light of day. He was first detained at Banjul’s police headquarters until Tuesday night when President Jammeh ordered the NIA to take over the investigations. It can be recalled that in late 2007, Sanyang through President Jammeh had paid for a very expensive vacation trip to Hawaii for a team of American beauty queens. According to our sources in the office of the President the Gambia leader has provided university scholarships to about eight American beauty queens and those tuitions fees in excess of one hundred thousand dollars have been delivered by Lamin Sabi Sanyang.
