STGDP- Press Release

STGDP Press Release

STGDP, in accordance with its constitution, has elected a new Executive, which is given the task of running the organization for the next two years. For the past fourteen years, Gambians have witnessed murder, torture, corruption and humiliation at the hands of a brutal dictator who has undermined the very fiber of our country and people.

Six years ago STGDP came into existence to confront the constant erosion of the rule of law and to restore democracy in the Gambia. It is an undertaken that has had its successes, failures and disappointments; understandably, confronting an entrenched dictator is never an easy task and will no doubt require all Gambians in this effort. STGDP refused to abandon our role in the fight for the liberation of our people, but also understands the importance of working with all groups to achieve the goals bringing an end to Jammeh’s tyranny.

STGDP fully understands that we cannot fight this struggle in isolation, and as Gambians we are not monolithic; we are a diverse group belonging to different political persuasions, ethnic groups, different localities, different religious groupings, but nonetheless agree that there is evil and wrong doing happening to our country. STGDP is appealing to groups in the Diaspora and all political parties and religious groups at home: MODD New York group, GDP, MRDG in London, NMRDG in Wisconsin, UGAMA, UDP, PPP, PDOIS, NRP, NDAM and everyone committed to bring democracy to the Gambia, to immediately start coordinating our effort to bring an end to the madness confronting our country. Now is the time to join our efforts to defend the dignity of the Gambia against Jammeh’s tyrannical rule. Below is the new organizational structure of the STGDP:

Chairman of STGDP: Banka Manneh, Atlanta, Georgia
Vice Chairperson: Sigga Jagne, Frankfort Kentucky
Secretary: Chris Sukuna, Rice Lake, Wisconsin
Public Relation officer: Fatou Jaw Manneh, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Political Strategist: Musa Jeng, Atlanta, Georgia
Treasurer: Saul Njie, Chicago, Illinois

Sincerely,
Musa Jeng
Outgoing Interim Chairman
