Mathew K. Jallow Replies Watchman

Dear Watchman,

The Watchman on a path of self destruction

I too have a lot to say in response to your rambling tirade of contemptible gibber, but I will defer to my brother Sankareh; for I could not have said it any better than he did. But, having just read your pusillanimous piece in the Freedom, I decided not to carve in to the temptation to respond you any more than Sankareh has so effectively done. But, I take issue with your tactless braggadocio, followed this week by a pretentious posturing that exposes your futile effort at retracting from your deep held bias towards Sankareh and me. In suiting yourself in your knight’s amour and marching ever so gallantly to save a victim whose reality resides only in your myopic inability to discern fact from fiction, you made a caricature of yourself; a buffoon trying to salvage the bit of credibility left hanging over a cloak of deception. As an arbiter of truth and objectivity, the venom you spewed about us, and the intensity of your hatred, so very apparent in your diatribe, have earned you a well-deserved accolade as the brewer of discord, rather than a denizen of truth. You sir, as NBC’s anchor Keith Olberman would say, are guilty of a capricious application of selective justice. You sir, must epitomize naiveté if you believe you can outflank and blindside us with your un-clever and superfluous apology. Your hatred of us has not left your body; it is still lurking inside of you, eating into your soul like a cancer. I will tell you of a South African proverb, which says: “you can never frighten a monkey with a dead baboon.” As you soldier over your Athena, ready to do battle, even lose a limb, your efforts at turning us into pariahs have failed miserably, on the contrary, your fake righteous indignation and quackery, can do nothing to move us from the paths in which our credibility is invested in seeking justice for our countrymen. You sir, are a big joke. We don’t need you to validate our work, and as you rest on your laurels, cheered on by a very clueless Englishman with a terrible gift of language and a sucking grammar that will make Geoffrey Chaucer’s body turn in utter revulsion, I want to remind you to never start a war where there is no enemy, and never fight a battle where your adversary is a mere figment of your sanctimonious imagination. By smearing yourself in mud in this fracas brought on by your bias and lack of objectivity, you have made yourself hero in delusion land and in the process you have cannibalized what integrity you had left in your new found rambunctious personality. We don’t need you to tell us about how we write, but if you feel saturated by what we have to say, you have a choice; not to read us. Your vacillation between contriteness and apology and your very implicit slanderous venom, all in a morning’s worth, leaves one wandering whether you are ravaged by bipolar or onset multiple personality. I advice you to go back and read my yesterday’s story in order to get the gist and the genesis of this squabble. It was a war that did not need to happen and a fight that we did not start. But, since you are blinded by your explicit bias, you don’t seek truth, and you are infuriated by a conflict of nothing. Your motives are inimical to our search for a common ground and regardless of your dabbling in hate, we will come together to once again steer our energies towards our common enemy. Some of us have been around long enough to know that conflict often produces greater unity of purpose; hopefully, this too will come to pass. We will not allow you to poison our good consciences against this eventuality. Finally, it might help you to know that we had exactly the same type of discord led by B.B.C stringer Peter Dacosta, when Deyda Hydara was president of the Gambia Press Union, but we came out of it much stronger and more united than ever. So this is just history repeating itself; but only then we did not have a watchman looking to plant seeds of discord in a meaningless effort to save Athena where Athena was perfectly safe under our wings. I will stop here lest I babble my mind to irrelevance and be as fictitious as the caricature you are making of yourself.
