News Just In: President Jammeh Sacks Four Customs Officers

News Just In President Jammeh Sacks Four Customs Officers

By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In- Chief

According to our unimpeachable sources at the State House, President Jammeh has instructed the sacking of four senior customs officials, namely: Lamin Marena, Baboucarr Loum, Edrissa Touray and Saye.

Says Kissy Kissy Mansa, all four who were arrested on Wednesday and detained at the NIA headquarters in Banjul, have now been sacked and cautioned accordingly. They however remain detained incommunicado and are according to our source, “likely to appear in court in the coming days to face a barrage of corruption allegations stemming from alleged massive diversion of revenue collected at Amdalaye Border Post, on the Gambian border with Senegal”.

Their arrest, detention and subsequent sacking says Waato Seeta, is the result of statistical comparisons of revenues reported by the four in the past years to that of the current official  identified only as officer Trawally. Says Kissy Kissy Mansa, in the coming days; hell is likely to break loose, as President Jammeh has instructed a massive sweep across the spectrum and many Permanent Secretaries and Ministers may not survive the proverbial electric broom that ferociously sweeps only to recycle the dust. We anxiously await these predictions!

Dr Fox says...

Extreme justice is an extreme injury: for we ought not to approve of those terrible laws that make the smallest offences capital, nor of that opinion of the Stoics that makes all crimes equal; as if there were no difference to be made between the killing (of) a man and the taking (of) his purse, between which, if we examine things impartially, there is no likeness nor proportion .~ Sir Thomas More in Utopia, Bk 1. (1516)
