More Demonstrations Against Gambian Tyrant, Yahya Jammeh

New Yorkers Demonstrate Against Gambian Dictator, Yahya Jammeh

By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In-Chief

In the mounting demonstrations against the utterly despicable dictatorship of Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh some significant progress is being registered as evident in the pictures taken during the global day of action held before the Gambian Permanent Representative at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Global Day of Action launched by Amnesty International began in London two weeks ago and has sparked a campfire of support among Gambian exiles and expatriates in the West. We hope this noble endeavour will continue to educate the world about the harrowing authoritarianism of Yahya Jammeh’s government and the need for change.

During yesterday’s United Nations’ demonstrations, the New York based dissident group, Gambia Movement for Democracy & Development had an outpouring of support galvanizing Amnesty’s campaign to bring about change in the Gambia. Saikou Mballow, a veteran of the  campaign for democratic change in The Gambia was in attendance and sent us these images.

Dr Fox says...

Extreme justice is an extreme injury: for we ought not to approve of those terrible laws that make the smallest offences capital, nor of that opinion of the Stoics that makes all crimes equal; as if there were no difference to be made between the killing (of) a man and the taking (of) his purse, between which, if we examine things impartially, there is no likeness nor proportion .~ Sir Thomas More in Utopia, Bk 1. (1516)
