Dramatic developments continue to unfold in the West African state of The Gambia where, the autocratic Head of state Yahya Jammeh has been humiliating, axing, jailing and promoting soldiers like a mad man in an alien world. Our unimpeachable sources within the corridors of state power report moments ago that Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Yankuba Drammeh who was dismissed with disgrace barely three days ago, has been reinstated and promoted to the rank of Major General. Yankuba Drammeh has also been reinstated as Deputy Chief of Defence with immediate effect.

In a related development, The Gambia Echo can also reveal that Colonel Lamin Bojang, Presidential Guards Commander has been elevated to the rank of Brigadier General. Bojang is a native of Brufut, Kombo North and member of the 17th Intake, 1995 of The Gambia National Army (GNA).

Yanks Touray is at Mile II

The Gambia Echo can also report with overwhelming evidence that Yankuba Touray, erstwhile Fisheries Minister and National Mobiliser of the Jammeh government has been spotted again at the Mile II Central Prisons five days after he was booked for release with Lieutenant Modou Alieu Bah. “I don’t know what happened but Yankuba Touray for all we know was cleared by the NIA and like Bah who was serving a 20-year jail term, Touray was supposed to be home for the Tobaski but all of a sudden, they brought him back” reveals a highly placed security source. According to this source, “Ndoke, I swear to Allah, I saw Yanks with a blue plastic bowl at about 8:00Am this morning eating mono.”

In a related development, Captain Lamin Fatty, former guard to Captain Edward Singhateh who was sacked along General Tamba has been charged with beating and breaking the arm of a police officer. Fatty has denied the allegations as utter malice calculated to tarnish his image. The verdict is slated for December 27, 2009 and The Gambia Echo will surely cover it. Our correspondent in Banjul reveals that, the verdict in the Fatty case was due this morning but the judiciary was currently overwhelmed with high profile corruption cases involving judges.

As we went to press, there is news that up to three female judges were either arrested or about to be arrested but since we cannot say definitively how accurate these allegations are, we will leave it at that. We have also received just now, preliminary information that agents of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) were at various local banks this morning investigating allegations of financial impropriety.
