Hon. Speaker M.B Wadda Dies

Family source from Banjul have revealed to The Gambia Echo only moments ago, of the death of Hon. Mustapha B. Wadda, former Speaker of the Gambian National Assembly from 1997 to 2001. Mr. Wadda peacefully passed away this afternoon at the Royal Victoria Hospital In Banjul.

According to family sources, Mr. Wadda will be laid rest at the Bakau Cemetry, Monday February 1, 2009 at 2pm  local time and the funeral is expected to be attended by several local dignitaries as well as venerable religious leaders from the community.

A career civil servant, Mustapha Baboucarr Wadda had served in various capacities in the Gambian civil service in both the first and second Republics, rising to the pinnacle of Secretary General, office of the President. He later became Speaker until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Wadda is survived by a wife and several children. May his soul rest in eternal peace-Amen!
