      Elects Interim   

       Committee                  

Members of the Gambia Press Union/UK now renamed; The Gambia Press Union/ EU, on Thursday July 22 2010, held an emergency meeting at Amnesty International offices in London to elect a new committee.

The meeting, the first of its kind, witnessed the election of an interim executive to steer the affairs of the Union for a period of three months. At the end of the three months period, the interim Secretary General will call a general meeting of all registered members at which fresh elections for new Executive Committee will be conducted.

Sarjo Bayang, former president GPU/ UK was elected in absentee as President of the Interim Committee. Other elected members of the new Executive are as follows: Sarata Jabbi-Dibba, treasurer; Bubacarr Sowe, Secretary General, assisted by Alieu Badara Ceesay; Yaya Dampha, Public Relation Officer, assisted by Yusupha Cham; PK Jarjue and Abdoul Karim Sanneh, organizers.

At the end of the meeting, members unanimously agreed on the following:

1. GPU /UK to be restructure as GPU /EU, to accommodate our colleagues in other European countries. 

2. Interim working committee to be established for a period of three months. The committee's role is to lay the groundwork for the election of a new executive.

3. Report of this meeting to be circulated to all those concerned, and copied to the media for the benefit of those who may want to register as new members

The EU branch will work hand in hand with its parent branch in The Gambia and the GPU USA to pursue the same aims and objectives. Gambian journalists and writers within the EU are urged to register.
