Miami Gambians praised for remarkable Labor Day retreat
By special correspondent, Ablie Njie in Miami.
On behalf of Gambians who came from Sweden, London and other parts of the U.S and spent the lovely weekend in Miami, we thank you for your exemplary hospitality. To say that the Gambians in Miami deserve a big A-Plus is an understatement despite the inevitable three-year moratorium due to recent Ramadan observance since 2008.

Miami Gambians have without a doubt delivered a remarkable weekend. They have resurfaced, regrouped with an unflinching determination to reclaim the Labor Day Weekend, and of course continue the tradition of bringing fellow Gambians together for reunification.
After driving and enjoying the beautiful sceneries of the sunshine state of Florida with my two lovely daughters, my niece and grand son, spending the Labor Day weekend in Miami was a trip well worth my time.
What started with the famous rhythms of Bai Tama of Atlanta mixed with traditional Sabarr, hunting performance highlighted by a best dressed competition won by the lovely Ida Faal of Sweden at the cultural night, a Gala party on Saturday with DJ King Solomon rocking the house and a picnic at the beach on Sunday ended in a very memorable weekend.
To see old friends, parent and their children mingle especially, at the beach with their beautiful swimming suits on Sunday after feeding attendees with Benachin Bu Weh, Benachin Bu Honha, Hot Dogs, Barbeque and the sensational meat and fish pies was a scene worth going back to a million times.
This amazing weekend was brought to an end with the mesmerizing performance of Pape Thiopet, his brother and a live band under the auspices of famous Gambian DJ, Lamin Cham of Champion Sounds and Mr. Michael Nichol who undoubtedly delivered a show and performance you would not want to miss for anything in this world as they continue to tour in cities near you.
To Watch Thiopet perform and sing his hit “Raaye Johong” as he embarks on his solo career, in my opinion, is a dream come true. He has definitely evolved as a mature entertainer and now rightly claims his place as one of the best and eclectic performers of Mbalax.
Our profound appreciations to Mr. Michael Nichol, Gorgi Bray Sock, Njogu Njie, Pa Sallah Jeng and the many young Gambian ladies most notably, Njogu and Njameh Njie’s daughters who tirelessly delivered remarkable services.
Finally, to the organizers of this memorable weekend, rest assured that we will be repeating our trip to your lovely city next year and many more to come by the grace of the Almighty God. To imagine that the same cuisine, camaraderie and above all their incessant willingness to play host will be repeated is certainly worthy of a return trip to Miami in 2012.
Let it therefore be known that Miami Gambians have without a doubt delivered with class and so loudly echoed my own adage that “ What we Promise we must always deliver with Class.”
