According to an unimpeachable source from the Gambian Foreign Affairs Ministry, President Jammeh has sacked its Permanent Secretary, Mr. Willie Joof. Says our highly placed source, Willie was sacked following allegations that he diverted well over ten thousand Euros (10,000 Euros) meant for the Ministry’s missions abroad. Says our source, “it is more likely than otherwise that Willie too might end up at Mile II Prisons because the allegation that led HE to sack him is very serious.” Reveals our source, Willie was sacked weeks after the September Presidential elections, but erstwhile Trade and Employment Minister Susan Waffa Ogoo pleaded with the President to give him a second chance.

Now that Susan herself has fallen prey to the proverbial electric broom that ferociously sweeps every corridor in the establishment, it remains to be seen who, this time around, will face the man.
In another twist, the President sacked his Associate Press & Public Relations Director, Man Sait Ceesay a petty businessman turned journalist. Sait as he is mostly called, was also a staffer at the pro-government Daily Observer a paper that has devoted its editorial strength to supporting President Jammeh’s willy nilly crusade that he cures AIDS and Asthma. Like Willie Joof, Mam Sait is accused of gross- professional misconduct and the use of public resources to attend to his personal errands. Prior to the 1994 coup Sait was a regular guy who spent most of his time in Dakar from where he would occasionally file stories to make ends meet. A cantankerous character with a facile disposition, Mam Sait can do anything to make ends meet. Like the rest, he too has gotten his fair share of the cake or humiliation depending on what spectacle the observer chose to wear.
In another development, the President has appointed Dr. Saidou Jallow as Permanent Secretary of the newly created Ministry of Higher Education & Research. Jallow holds an undergraduate Geography degree from Foray Bay College in Sierra Leone and postgraduate diplomas from Del Housie in Canada. He has taught in various high schools in The Gambia and for many years at The Gambia College.
