How The NIA Tortured Ms. Sarjo K. Sannneh & Dodou Sanyang To Death

Echo Exclusive

By Ebrima G. Sankareh & Mathew K. Jallow

In the coming days, we will unravel the graphic details of how eight Gambians, seven men and a lady, Ms. Sarjo Kunjang Sanneh of Brikama were rounded up from the Santanba Cinema, detained at the Brikama Police Station and then taken to the NIA Headquarters on Marena Parade, Banjul. The only lady Sarjo and Dodou Sanyang (a. k.a Dodou Taylor) later succumbed to death following severe internal hemorrhaging.

In this Echo excusive we will interview some of the torture survivors like veteran politician Wassa Janneh now resident in New York, who believe that their inhumane treatment in the hands of Gambia government officials and NIA agents should be revisited and properly documented for any future criminal trial. In these damning torture revelations, we will encounter familiar actors and agents of torture like Daba Marena, then Deputy Director General of the NIA, Major Musa Jammeh, Capt. Pierre Mendy (now at Mile II Prisons), Lt. Kawsu Camara (a. k.a Bombarde), Sp. Presidential Agent Kawsu Gibba, Patrick Mendy, and the late Lt. Almamo Manneh. We will also try to provide video footages of these gruesome images of torture carried out on Gambians by Gambians. Please be patient with us as we put the riveting testimonies together

Dr Fox says...

Extreme justice is an extreme injury: for we ought not to approve of those terrible laws that make the smallest offences capital, nor of that opinion of the Stoics that makes all crimes equal; as if there were no difference to be made between the killing (of) a man and the taking (of) his purse, between which, if we examine things impartially, there is no likeness nor proportion .~ Sir Thomas More in Utopia, Bk 1. (1516)
