MAMBUREH NJIE HOME, SGT. BUBA JAMMEH PROMOTED

Erstwhile Gambian Secretary General Mr. Mambureh Njie who was relieved of his duties in the wake of the recent Cabinet dissolution is helping the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) with current investigations.

speaking to our surrogate reporter this afternoon family sources flatly denied that Mambureh is at the Mile II Central Prisons. "Some one might have sighted him coming in and out of the NIA and surmise that  he is at Mile II" one family member argued. According to this source, Mr.Njie was quizzed on numerous issues among them, the alleged corruption scandal at Works involving  Mr. Lamin Sanneh and the on-going investigations but was neither beaten nor mistreated. A graduate of Universities in the US among them Columbia University Graduate School, Mr. Njie had worked as a Customs Officer before he returned to academia. He finally returned home and rose through the ranks to become Secretary General and Head of The Gambia's beleagured Civil Service. For now though, he is like a parolee who reports to the all too powerful NIA daily to sign up the log and answer questions. It remains to be seen whether he too, will be recycled or matriculate to Mile II.

In a related development, Sergeant Buba Jammeh ( a.k.a Kanilai) has been promoted to the rank of an Intelligence Superintendent to collate military intelligence. Says our Yundum Barracks correspondent, "OX", Buba Jammeh's promotion has brought renewed chasm both within the ranks of The Gambia National Army and the NIA. People here are so angry because Buba Jammeh has no background in intelligence and the only reason he is elevated to a Superintendent is because like President Jammeh, he too is Jola. According to OX, there are career intelligence officers who are now under this spineless errand boy. Ever since he leaked the November 11 abortive coup, Yahya Jammeh has been grooming him and some of us close to this regime can only predict that the worse is yet to come.

For the benefit of your readers, it is important to note that Sgt. Buba Jammeh is not the same as Sgt. Buba Ebou Jammeh. The latter is Mandinka from Brikama and is currently held at the Mile II Prisons. That Jammeh has been detained since April.
