Editor:
I read Tijan Nimaga's opinion with interest. Whilst I totally agree with the thrust of his argument, I beg to differ. The Senegambian community in the UK did not give Yahya Jammeh any award. What was the basis and which organization?
This was a Waka Jagne one man run show NOT in our name the Senegambian community in the UK. Many people who attended the musical event were very disappointed, even the Senegalese comedian Saaneign was shocked that nobody clapped when the award was mentioned. Same old games, just a publicity stunt to be recognized and get closer to the dictator. The genuine people who matter have nothing to do with this political association know why Waka is doing this. Please do your research both in the UK & Gambia, find out who Waka Jagne is and what he does for a living in the UK.
Then you will understand that it was not an award given by the Senegambian community but a decision solely taken by him to be recognized. Just a point of clarification.

Editor’s Note: Mr. Jobe, please accept our profound appreciations for your precise yet information clarification. We are glad that your community was shocked at the award even though our correspondent was alluding to a press report that remains unchallenged to date. How could one individual, Waka Jagne, award a prize to Yahya Jammeh for good governance in the name of your community and no one raised a finger? These are the cheap popularity tactics that the regime showcases on its Radio and TV on a daily basis.
