PA SULAYMAN DIES IN MECCA

PA SULAYMAN GAYE DIES IN MECCA

The death has been announced of Alhaji Pa Sulayman Gaye of Dippa Kunda, Serekunda. Pa Gaye as he was affectionately called, died last night in Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia while performing the Hajj.

A veteran politician, youth leader, parent, philanthropist and humanist, Pa Gaye was first elected in 1979 as a Councilor in the defunct Kanifing Urban District Council and continued to represent his Dippa Kunda Ward with honour and distinction until the July 22nd. Coup when the PPP government was toppled and the entire democratic dispensation swept away. He served in various committees and organizations in various and distinct capacities among them Chairman of the Development Committee of the KMC and youth President of Serekunda East for many years. Through Pa Gaye’s initiatives, numerous infrastructural face-lifts took place in Serekunda.

By a twist of irony, it was at Pa Gaye’s house that Omar Amadou Jallow was nominated to contest as an MP in 1972. His late mother, Ya-Jabou Gaye was a celebrated politician and for many years, served as PPP Chairwoman for Hon. Omar A. Jallow.

Across the spectrum Pa was a good social mixer, with a beaming smile that became his trademark and perhaps helped him stay the course as a good political animal. His demise is therefore, a loss to The Gambia, Serekunda in particular. Says Mr. Kebba Jallow, ex- Chairman of the Kanifing Municipal Council, “Pa's entire life was dedicated to humanity; I have never seen a man so dedicated to his people as the late Mr. Gaye. We matriculated into the political scene the same year, 1979 and until I left the Gambia, Pa has never wavered in his commitment to The Gambia and the electorate. I pray that God grant him mercy in Heaven and continue to bless his family.” The late Alhj. Pa Sulayman Gaye is survived by several children, nieces, and nephews. He was blessed with kind spouses: Yamundow Njie, Lalia Kujabi and Gail Lobba.

"In the coming days, we will wrap up the Jammeh-Sabi corruption nexus, the scholarships to the black beauty queens and then begin an exclusive report on human sacrifice by the Jammeh regime. Our correspondent Waato Seeta has the details."
