One President, two faces: The man in the red beret advocated for transparency, accountability & probity, but the man in kaftan condones corruption and is himself corrupt.


Mr. Editor, do you remember sometimes ago in The Gambia when employees were being paid a professional allowance if they hold a certain qualification?
This guy produced a certain document -“MM..Something” and claimed it was equivalent to a Masters Degree just to get D2500 tax-free professional allowance. Some of us who thought the guy was in the first place 'illegally'
occupying the Technical Services Department as Manager wanted to enquire from the said institution the following:

1. Did that “MM...Something” paper really belong to Mr. Momodou AB Jagne?
2. What would be the equivalent qualification (i.e. Diploma, Bachelors,
Masters)?

We had a good reason to believe if he merited that paper at all, it is only equivalent to a Diploma (and would only be entitled to D1000 professional allowance). But the ultimate objective was to expose him as a liar who goes on
backstabbing people just to get his way with a paper not good enough to make him a Manager much more a Director.

His face was saved by the MD at the time at GIA who authorized Finance to pay the D2500 and warned us to desist from digging deep into that.

Jali Jagne, as we sarcastically called him at GIA, shocked everybody when he was appointed Director of Technical Services. Everyone thought this was some kind of a
joke...but it was real, and we put up with the 'nightmare' until we started losing our FMCs, Conveyors, etc before someone took notice. All he could do was to engage in unending overseas trips and pursuing his per diems from
Finance to Audit to Cash Point until he gets that cheque.

When he got the sack, we thought Yaya Jammeh had finally got to know the type of guy running one of the most important Departments of GIA. Everyone was happy not even to see him at GIA premises. Mr. Editor, the next thing we realized was when Jali Jagne was given a 'contract' to rip off one of Air Dabia’s aircraft. What happened to the parts still remains a mystery. One rumour had it that some of the parts were taken to Jali's home in Wellingara
(as mentioned by BJ).

The biggest shock came when news broke at GIA that Jali is now the MD at GPTC. By this time, even the staff of GIA knew GPTC was doomed because
most of their drivers to the GPTC Airport buses moved over to GIA complaining of over-due salary payments and unfair working conditions. I remembered fully when I will go and call some of these drivers to join us
(GIA night shift workers) for dinner because GPTC was not providing food for them...this was not right, but knowing what I knew now, they could be
forgiven.

Thanks for the space, and big bravo to BJ. I hope if Jali and President Jammeh have nothing in common, he should act now because Jali is definitely not competent at all to run a car repair shop, let alone a Corporation...somebody must be joking.
