EX-Minister Omar Faye’s Wife Convicted

Banjul’s no-nonsense Principal Magistrate B.Y.Camara has convicted Madam Ndeye Njie, contumacious wife to erstwhile Youth & Religious Affairs Minister Sheikh Omar Faye to a fine of D12000 or in default serves twelve months with hard labour at Banjul’s infamous Mile II Prisons. Ndeye Njie was on Wednesday convicted of assaulting her ex-husband's wife Mrs. Nyarra Adams.
According to the particulars of the case, the convict Mrs. Njie on May 14, 2007, assaulted Mrs. Adams in the premises of the Banjul Police Headquarters in the presence of dozens of police officers on duty, some of who served as witnesses in the high profile Romeo case.
Delivering his judgment, Banjul Principal Magistrate B.Y Camara said before a crowded Courtroom that he had observed Mrs. Njie’s demeanor throughout the proceedings and was shocked at her rudeness and arrogance especially, considering that her husband was a Secretary of State. She was so rude because she thought her husband was a Minister so she can do anything and go scot-free noted a noticeably angry Magistrate Camara.
Magistrate Camara described Mrs. Njie's actions as rude, arrogant, offensive and stupid and therefore, convicts her to a fine of D7000.00 and D5000.00 as compensation for causing embarrassment to her victim, Mrs. Adams. Camara said the convict must pay the total sum of D12, 000.00 or in default serve twelve months with hard labour at Mile II.
