A Soldier’s Salute From Baghdad
Dear Ebrima:
Congratulations my fellow American! You are quite an achievement indeed; and welcome to the tribe of the free and the brave. I am very proud to know that our country, The United States of America, has one more paragon of liberty who shall never fail to give a voice to those who have been denied justice and freedom. The passion for truth, charity, balance and magnanimity registered in your online paper, The Gambia Echo, is equal to none within the Gambian community. As you know I am currently within the Sunni Triangle in Iraq serving with a Special Counterinsurgency Task Force, 101st Airborne Division. I am doing what I also love to do most: hunting petty tyrants, terrorists, and fighting for the oppressed who cannot fight for themselves. Iraq is still a very dangerous place with explosive devices, suicide bombers and deadly snipers almost everywhere. However, The US military still maintains a dominant footprint and all the bad guys are now on the run.

Gambia's Captain Ebou Jallow is a US citizen in the war in Iraq.
I have also been following the fascinating stories from an old friend, the affable Sir Jackal on The Gambia Echo. I last met him in Dakar few years ago whilst on a mission but I never imagined that he went through so much. I am truly humbled by his resilience. I also never fail to notice Colonel Sam Sarr’s evocative accounts on contemporary Gambia. Sam was one of the finest officers in The Gambia Army hands down. He is a very honest and a very serious thinker with a lot of wisdom to share. I am quite embarrassed to mention that I still cannot find the time to read his latest book due to the overwhelming stress I go through in Iraq.
I am wishing you and beautiful Binta Happy Holidays, and keep up the noble service to humanity in our common struggle against tyranny and injustice.
God Bless America!
Ebou Jallow.
Editor’s Note: The author of this letter Captain Ebou Jallow was a US trained Gambian Naval officer. After the arrest and detention of Captain Sadibou Haidara who later died in prison, captain Jallow was appointed Spokesperson of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council until he defected to the States and told the whole world the true story about Finance Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay’s gruesome death in the hands of the disgraced Grand Butcher of Banjul, the irredeemable serial executioner- The Mighty Edward David Singhateh. On behalf of the Editorial Staff we wish Mr. Jallow a very merry Christmas, happy New Year in advance and a very safe return to the United States. Thank you for the kind words.
